Participants will be “Groovin’ for Education” The 13th Annual Humble ISD Education Foundation Gala is slated for 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 5, at the Humble Civic Center. The theme for this year’s event is “Back to the ‘70s: Groovin’ for Education” and guests are encouraged to dress in their favorite 70s attire. The Humble Civic Center will be transformed into Studio 54 and guests will groove to 70s hits and enjoy a fabulous buffet provided by Safari Texas Ranch. A silent and live auction will once again add to the evening’s excitement with all proceeds benefiting the Foundation’s Innovative Education Grant program. ACTION 13 CONSUMER Reporter Patricia Lopez is this year’s gala emcee. The Kingwood High graduate and former state champion golfer is back home after stops in Denver, Washington, D.C and New York City, including guest host appearances on Barbara Walter's Show, "The View." Patricia is focused on women's issues and saving you money through her weekly "Stretch your Dollar" segments on ABC13. A variety of sponsorship packages are available to fit any budget, ranging from $1,500 (I Will Survive) to $20,000 (Disco Inferno). Individual tickets are also available for $100 per person and discounts are offered to Humble ISD employees. The proceeds from the gala provide grants for teachers to support special projects that can not be funded by the regular operating budget. Last school year, the Foundation funded $587,495 in grants to Humble ISD schools. Proceeds from the 2012 gala enabled a group of Title One students to see their first fine arts performance at the Wortham Center, created the first-ever robotics team at Kingwood Park High School, and equipped middle school students with Autism with cutting-edge technology to assist their learning in the classroom.
