After an 0-2 start to the 2018 Texas high school football season, the Summer Creek Bulldogs football team has responded in a big way in district play.
After a 40-21 victory Friday night against the Humble Wildcats at Turner Stadium, the Bulldogs head into the most difficult part of their schedule 4-0 in District 22-6A play and tied for first.
As the game began, the Wildcats, who came into the game 2-2 in district themselves, looked to make a big statement and take a step closer to the playoffs.
In the first quarter, the Wildcats recovered an Andre Holliday fumble deep in Bulldogs territory, setting up a short Isaiah Robinson touchdown run.
Two possessions later though, Summer Creek answered; a 39-yard Holliday run set up a short Holliday touchdown run.
The missed PAT kept Humble in the lead at the end of the first; the second quarter belonged to the Bulldogs, who scored three of the four touchdowns in the period.
The last, a 19-yard touchdown catch by Tyler Via, put them up 26-14 at half.
In the third, the Bulldogs got a blocked punt deep in Humble’s end of the field, setting up a Bryan Bush 23-yard touchdown run.
The teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter for the 40-21 final; with the loss, the Wildcats dropped to 4-3 for the year and 2-3 in district play.
The Bulldogs remain tied in district, with Atascocita, who kept on rolling with a 52-0 victory over Pasadena Memorial Saturday night at Turner Stadium. The Eagles improve to 4-0 in district and 5-1 overall.
The Panthers improved to 3-0 in District 9-5A I and 4-2 overall with a 45-14 win over Galena Park Thursday night at Turner Stadium.
This week, Summer Creek takes on Kingwood Friday night at Turner Stadium, Atascocita meets Dobie Saturday night at Turner Stadium and Kingwood Park is at New Caney Friday night.
