Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community. Christmas sweaters, designer suits, lots of bling, and another hugely successful fundraising event - it could only be the 21st annual Mothers Against Cancer luncheon! From 10 a.m. till 3 p.m., these ladies were raising money and having a fabulous time doing it. The prestigious Ann Denman Award was presented to Bill Chenault, whose wife Beth accepted it on his behalf. Executive Director Nancy Dillard was the emcee; auctioneer Rick Alspaugh brought in $31,450. Bob and Donna Mann made the winning bid of $6,000 for the precious chocolate lab puppy. This led to the highlight of the day: the Manns promptly gave the puppy to sweet 3-year-old Grant McTaggart, the luncheon honoree. “ Let it snow; let it snow”! Delighted guests and a lovely snowfall arrived at Walden Country Club just in time for the annual CARE PROJECT 2009 luncheon, benefitting Harris County Hospital District. More than 80,000 people, the needy families with loved ones in LBJ and Ben Taub hospitals, have benefitted from this event over the years. Kudos to Bobbie Curtis and her excellent team for their work this year as well. Watching the snow and enjoying the lunch and fabulous desserts: Anne Wallace; Rachael Waite; Bonnie Dreymala; Bobbie Lee; Teresa Rucka; Jan Swanson; Emily Marshall; Barbara Mayfield; Connie Jones; Amanda Leonard with precious baby granddaughter Christiana; Casey Christman; Dan and Janet Huberty. Casey shared the news that she has left the re-election campaign of Governor Perry to work full time for Dan’s candidacy for State Representative District 127. Sunny Lupton’s beautiful home was the site of the annual KARW (Kingwood Area Republican Women’s Club) Christmas party. A Christmas tree was surrounded by toys and gifts guests brought for Mission Northeast. The 2010 slate of officers was sworn in by City of Houston Councilman Michael Sullivan. Faces in the crowd included: Kim Sullivan; Chris and Judge Lynn Bradshaw-Hull; Richard and Len Leofsky; Martin and Alta Basaldua; Dan and Janet Huberty; Robert and Jayme Scarfo; Keith and Christi Lapeze; Larry Shiflet; Dave and Joy Jerger; Tony and Cheryl Austin; Larry and Deborah Wedekind. Dr. Guy Sconzo and wife Diane hosted their annual Open House for the Humble ISD Education Foundation. This is always a highlight as Foundation members and spouses gather with teachers and faculty to celebrate the District’s year. Guests brought toys for HAAM, filling the Sconzos’ staircase with them. Faces in the crowd: Lupe and Josie Lopez; Joe and Corinn Price; Ray and Karen Perkins Solcher; Christopher and Jill Curran; Carl and Colene Joiner; Al and Margot Byington; Dr. Martin Basaldua; Kim Riley; Lisa Maddux; Marilyn Mann; Ike Coffman; Matt Vybiral; Lorrie Ogletree; Jerry Lavey. From the Kingwood Garden Club “Yard of the Month” sign outside to the warm and cheerful celebration inside, Pat and Mary Hubbard’s annual open house was a delightful occasion. The Hubbards and their guests were also celebrating Pat’s 35th anniversary as an attorney. You may not know that Pat began his career in Tyler and Lubbock, and was Acting Attorney General for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands before moving to Kingwood in 1985. Among many joining in the festivities: Dr. Andy James and Charity James; Dr. Jim and Karen Gallagher; James and Judy Thigpen; David and Linda Prator; Evelyn Walters. Tony Raffa, Chef David Welch and Majestic Fine Wines’ Robert Gilroy hosted a fantastic wine tasting for wine locker holders at Raffa’s. Chef David created wonderful platters of foods perfect for the wine pairings, and they were enjoyed by: Pat and Ardy Weston; Dr. Barry and Tina Sachs; Paul Saunders; Chad and Devon Alexander; Carl Chargois; Beth Duncan on a rare date night with handsome hubby Andy. “Winers” and diners were delighted by the new look of the restaurant and the new menu. Speaking of Raffa’s, Donika Westerhedie’s birthday was just one of the parties there on a recent Saturday afternoon. Friends Tamara Paul and Kale Cameron joined Donika for her first 39th and a champagne celebration. Cheryl (CJ) Johnson hosted a holiday wine tasting in her lovely home, featuring wine-maker Brian Graham, owner of Ramian Estate Winery and Ideology Wines. Faces in the crowd: Kathie Gentry; Cherryl Young; Daniel and Cherrie Ledoux; Richard and Nancy Foisner; Richard Leofsky; Danny Sullivan, and dozens more.
